How to check the Inertia Switch

From 3.8Wiki

Ford incorporated a safety switch in the trunk that will disable the power to the fuel pump in case of an accident. While a great added safety feature, it can be tripped by hitting a pothole, messing around with the electrical system, or other vibrations such as a powerful sub woofer. If you suddenly cannot start the car one day, especially after hitting a bump in the road, and the engine is turning over, the first thing to check should be the Inertia switch. If the switch is fine, check the fuse and/or relay before further investigation into the pump itself. All you have to do is press the red button on top. If it clicks, then you have successfully reset the switch. If you cannot press the button, then the switch is not the cause of your inability to start.

You can find the Inertia behind a trim panel on the driver side of the trunk. A hole is present to reset the switch without needing to remove panels. Image:InertiaLoc.JPG
