Site Rules

3.8mustang.com wishes to provide an open community for information exchange and discussion regarding V6 Ford Mustangs. In order to facilitate that, certain common sense rules and standards of community need to be adhered to by all members. Repeated violation of these rules will result in an infraction from either a moderator or administrator. Further failure to comply with these rules will result in your access to the boards being revoked or restricted.

  • Keep all language appropriate. 3.8 has an optional swear filter which is enabled by default. This can be disabled at the user's discretion by entering the User Control Panel and selecting the "no filter" board template. However, excessive swearing is discouraged. Please DO NOT use swear words in thread titles. Foul language is strongly discouraged in technical forums. Please conduct yourself in a friendly manner that is appropriate for a site visited by people of all ages. Please do NOT use spaces or special characters (e.g. "d@mn") to circumvent board filters. They're there for a reason.
  • Post Formatting and Etiquette:
    • Please don't type in all caps. Using all capital letters in a thread title will be automatically filtered by the board software. Please do what you can to ensure that your post is readable. When communicating via text, spelling and grammar are all we have to get our point across.
    • Please make an effort to post technical questions in the correct forum. It is inappropriate to post a technical question in the Off-Topic portion of the site for a "quick answer". A moderator will quickly move your post to the correct section anyway, so save them some time and effort. The technical sections of the board form a searchable archive that helps other people with the same question in the future. Please respect that and make an effort to post technical threads in the correct area of the site.
    • Do not use public forums as a pager. 3.8 has a very nice private messaging system. Please do not use the public forums for paging another member or carrying out a private conversation.
    • Please make use of the search feature. 3.8 has an extensive searchable archive of almost 200,000 threads and three million posts. It's possible and even probable that someone has had the exact same question you do in the past. It helps everyone on the board if you attempt to help yourself before posting a commonly asked question.
    • Do not post the same thread in more than one area of the site. One thread is sufficient. Do not carpet-bomb the board with the same thread in each forum.
  • Moderators/Administrators: They are the ones that keep this site organized, clean, and running smoothly. Please comply with any request made of you by a moderator. The moderators of a forum should be your first line of support if you have a problem. Moderators for each individual forum are displayed on the main forum page. If you feel your concern was not adequately addressed by the forum moderator, you are encouraged to contact a site administrator to resolve your issue.
  • Respect: Treat everybody with respect. Be kind towards one another and the site will be a much happier place. This site thrives on the friendliness of its members and anyone who disrupts that peace will be frowned upon. If you do not treat people in a respectful manner, you will first receive an infraction from a moderator or administrator. If you fail to change your habits, you will be banned for an indefinite amount of time.
  • Do not engage in flame wars. If you have a personal issue with another member, resolve it via private messages. Personal insults towards other members will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances. Participating in flame wars with other members will result in the banning of everyone involved for a mandatory cool-down period.
  • Locked Threads: A locked thread was locked for a reason. The moderator of the forum will always make a final post explaining why the post was locked. If you have an issue with the locking of the thread, you are encouraged to take it up with the moderator privately via private messages. Re-posting locked threads will not be tolerated.
  • Free Posting (aka Post whoring): Post whoring is a term used by many here and at many other message boards. Don't do it. Please make an effort to keep threads on-topic and uncluttered with side-conversation or banter.
  • For Sale Board / Advertising rules: Advertising and Spamming are absolutely NOT allowed at 3.8mustang.com. The classified boards exist for private, one-time transactions between members of this site. Please try to limit for-sale items to Mustang-related goods. Electronics, etc. are occasionally allowed at the discretion of the moderator. Repeated classified postings by businesses or individuals that do not have an advertising agreement with 3.8mustang.com is strictly prohibited. This site is able to exist due to the revenue generated by our paying sponsors. If you have found this site a useful resource we encourage you to support our carefully screened site sponsors. Site sponsors have demonstrated an exceptional track record for customer service. Businesses or individuals interested in advertising on 3.8 should email inquiries to mailto:advertising@3.8mustang.com
  • Sponsor Forums- Each site sponsor has a customer service forum available for you to use. If you have issues with a sponsor or would like to provide feedback on a transaction, you are encouraged to use this forum.
  • Adult Material in Off-Topic Forums: 3.8mustang.com is not a porn site. There are plenty of other sites on the internet which are. Please visit those sites for adult material and visit 3.8mustang.com for information on V6 Mustangs.
    • Any thread containing objectionable material must be clearly marked *WW* (Work Warning) in the thread title. 3.8 is visited by people all over the world - from work, school, public libraries and terminals, etc. If you post a thread containing questionable material that may not be appropriate for everyone, it MUST include a *WW* in the thread title.
    • Direct posting of nudity is not allowed under any circumstances. If you wish to post such material it MUST be done as a hyperlink. Displaying images of nudity directly in threads is cause for immediate removal and disciplinary action.
  • Trolling/Sub Accounts: Please DO NOT register multiple accounts at 3.8mustang.com. Alter-egos will be banned permanently and the primary account will at minimum be suspended for a period of time. Multiple accounts are NOT allowed. Creating a new account when a primary account is banned is grounds for an immediate and permanent block from our message boards.
  • Street Racing: We at 3.8Mustang.com do not condone street racing. What you do is your business, but posts about street racing or street racing videos will be deleted/locked. This, of course, does not include legitimate or educational purposes such as discussing the dangers, etc.

Infractions

3.8 moderators and administrators utilize an infraction system to issue and track warnings to members for inappropriate or prohibited conduct. Consider an infraction a warning to adhere to the site rules. Most infractions stay active for two weeks from the time they are issued. If any members has three active infractions at any given time, their posting privileges will be automatically suspended until one of the infractions expires. Serious violations may result in an immediate suspension of posting privileges, and repeated problems may result in a permanent loss of message board access.

Signature / Avatar Rules

Signatures and Avatars are enabled for users to provide a small PERSONAL bit of information about themselves and their cars. Signatures must conform to the standards below or they will be removed. Repeated violations will result in signature privileges being disabled.

  • Max Image Bytes: 50kb
  • The total size of your signature should not exceed 600 pixels by 184 pixels. This includes text AND images. Please try to keep your signature conservatively sized.
  • No objectionable content is allowed in signatures or avatars, including profanity, nudity, suggestive images, etc. What qualified as "objectionable content" is the sole discretion of the moderators.

If your signature is found in violation you will receive a PM from a moderator and be asked to re-size it. Repeated violations will result in signature privileges being revoked.

Example Signature:

If you wish to maintain a more complete profile that details more modifications, you may register your car with us at http://www.3.8mustang.com/members and post the link to your profile in your sig. A sample signature is posted above, which is about as big as you can get.

ADVERTISING IN SIGNATURES AND AVATARS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Images and links in signatures should point to PERSONAL sites. If you wish to support a company or product, you may do so on your personal page. Advertising in signatures is a privilege reserved for paid advertisers with prior approval from 3.8mustang.com. Signatures advertising companies or third party vendors will be removed or changed without notice. Links to personal profiles on other commercial sites are fine (such as a CarDomain page). This rule exists to protect the interests of our paid advertisers and to keep this site free and available to everyone.

Please obey all the rules above and help make 3.8 a friendly place on the web. Have Fun!!
