4th Annual Mustangs Assault the Dragon - July 9-11
The 4th Mustangs Assault the Dragon will be held the weekend after the July 4th weekend, just as last year. This year however, it will be an all weekend event. This is mainly due to the way cabins are rented and needing to rent one for 2 nights.
I have some ideas for the weekend that I will post once things get underway.
Tentative schedule:
July 9 - Fun in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. Events TBD.
July 10 - Lunch at 12 pm (Restaurant TBD). Tail of the Dragon immediately to follow with a stop at Deals Gap and the cruise ending at Fontana Dam. I'm expecting an even larger turnout than last year so the organization will probably be different than usual. Everyone will need to pay close attention to instructions and be cooperative to make this enjoyable for everyone and not a huge mess.
July 11 - Possibly a trip to Cherokee, NC. Events are still TBD.
Those not wanting to stay overnight can just meet the group at the restaurant on July 10th.
I'm currently looking for cabins in the area that will hold 20-30 people. If anyone has contacts in the business and can get a great group rate secured, please contact me by email at acobb4834@yahoo.com.
Once planning is further along, I will post up more details.
I will not be posting a list of everyone attenting as usual. It's much too tedious keeping up with it on several sites. Also, it's not worth it when several that say they will be coming have to back out last minute. I will be keeping up with an attendance count and of course a count of those paying to stay overnight in the cabin.
Most likely, I will be breaking those attending into several groups. At least three, but possibly more depending on how many attend. Groups will be separated by time intervals to keep things from getting crowded.
*Red Group = "faster" drivers (relative of course, speed limits should still be observed) that have been to The Dragon before, or have track/driving school experience, AND have the chassis upgrades (especially brakes and suspension) to safely take part in this group.
*Yellow Group = the average driver that simply wants an enjoyable cruise and the challenge of takling The Dragon
*Green Group = the "Sunday drivers" that have no interest in pushing the car at all. Most of those in this group will probably be driving slow enough for their passenger to take pictures of the scenery during the cruise.
****When you post your interest in coming to this cruise, please let me know which group you would like to be placed in. If you want to be in the Red Group, I have the right to reject you if I don't feel you or your car can handle it.****

It's open to non-Mustangs too if you want to come. If you're a member of TMC/3.8/SVTP or any mustang site this is posted on, you can come. You may just feel a little out of place lol.
Was that pic taken on Cherohala?

Put me down for the Red Group.
I'm still not sure if I'm staying the couple nights or just meeting up for everything happening on the 10th.

If you come Friday, you may be able to park it somewhere in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Can't make any guarantees though.

Hi all, new member here. I'm required to pick vacation days this week at work so I've been searching all over the net for a mustang meet to go to this year. When i found this one i just knew i had to become a member here and make plans to go on this cruise. I definitely plan on attending and would want to be classed in the yellow group. I'll be making the cruise down there from NW illinois so if there's anyone from this way that wants to cruise down there with me hit me up with an email.

I'm dead determined to make it this year. I'll go with the Yellow Group since my luck right now is "**** breaks". I don't need a break down 10 hours from home.

Excellent. I have a cabin picked out if you'd like to stay overnight. It'll be about $30 a night to stay at the cabin for two nights.

I have a cabin picked out but no one is showing any interest in staying there. They're all either wanting to stay by themselves in a hotel or aren't staying overnight. Just remember, a cabin split ~14 ways is about $30 a night. You can't come close to a deal like that in a hotel.

Probably Yellow unless you want to go 20mph and takes pics with the green group, lol. Or go with us in the red group; I'm sure that Prius handles better than any stock suspension pre05 Mustang.

Not saying thats what I will have, just wondering if I can roll with whatever group I want if I can make it this year
Oh, and Cliff, since you hang with the red group, you better get out to the Nashville Speedway and actually run the car this year. Acobb already said he would.

I'll try to come up at the same time Andy does. Maybe I'll actually use some vacation time this year so I'm not rushing there and back.
Do you know how long (mileage) the NT05's are suppose to last? I've got NT555's now but it'll be time for new tires in a couple months.

No idea. They have a tread rating of 200 so not a super high milage tire. I don't know if they would be my first choice for a first trip out to the track the BFG G-Force sports would be much much better.
